The Atari 2600 is a video game console released on the market in 1977 under the name of Atari VCS (Video Computer System), becoming the first videogame system to be very successful, and made the interchangeable cartridges popular. In 1982, after the launch of the Atari 5200, it adopted its final name based on the catalog number that identified it (CX2600). This console was a great success and achieved that during the 1980s Atari was synonymous with video games. It was sold accompanied by 2 joysticks, 2 paddle controls and the Combat game from 1977 to 1983, then it was marketed with two joysticks and with or without a game cartridge depending on the pack.
